ABOUT US

OUR BELIEFS

Founded in 1888, Zion is a member of the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod.  We believe that God has gathered his people to worship and follow our Lord, Jesus Christ, and that he calls and equips us by the Holy Spirit through his Word and Sacraments to go and make disciples of all nations, as he desires that all would be saved through faith in the death and resurrection of his Son. Our faith is founded on the Scriptures and in our Lutheran confessions as the best way to understand God's powerful work of love in the world.

OUR VISION

Building and Strengthening Relationships with Jesus and Each Other And Opening the Door to a Lifetime of Christian Education.

OUR HISTORY

Zion Hinsdale was founded on November 14, 1886, with its first service in the Fullersberg schoolhouse. Two years later, 21 charter members officially formed the congregation and built their first church at Vine and Second Streets, dedicated on October 14, 1888. In 1889, land was purchased in Oak Brook for a cemetery.

By 1915, Zion had outgrown its original building and dedicated a new church at Grant and Second Streets. In 1931, Zion Lutheran School was built to provide Christian education for children in preschool through eighth grade. The school faithfully served generations of students until 2008.

Nearly a century after the second church was built, in 2004, an addition expanded the narthex, offices, and classrooms, uniting Zion Lutheran Church and Early Childhood Education Center under one roof.

Today, Zion is a diverse, welcoming congregation. Our preschool serves over 100 children annually and holds the highest accreditation from the National Lutheran School Association. Rooted in faith, Zion continues to be a place of learning, fellowship, and spiritual renewal.
